Digital Denture Scanning Tips

Want to make the switch to Digital Dentures? Interested in taking better scans? Paramount Dental Studio has compiled tips and tricks from the world’s leading scanning companies so your Digital Dentures fit correctly and comfortably. Reduce your chair time and seat final dentures in as few as 2 appointments by going digital:

Intraoral Scanning Tips

Before Scanning:

  • Ensure the edentulous arch is dry to reduce glare and the risk of distortions.

  • Dim or turn off overhead lights and other office lights to reduce glare and the risk of distortions. (Scanners use their own light to capture images, so reducing light interference improves scanner accuracy.)

While Scanning:

  • Scan using smooth and continuous motions. Go slowly to avoid distortions.

  • Look at the monitor while scanning to check your progress.

  • Roll the wand tip over the buccal and lingual edges, rocking back and forth. You can also try tilting the wand or using different angles to get an accurate scan.

  • Scan all the way to the retromolar pads, and scan as much sulcus / vestibular data as possible.

After Scanning:

  • Evaluate your scans for missing data, distortions, or overlapping scans. Missing data can be quickly filled by directly rescanning that area. Areas where there are distortions or overlapping scans should be fully rescanned to prevent inaccuracies.

Have a case the scanner can't capture intraorally?

Have a case the scanner can't capture intraorally? You can take a PVS or alginate impression of the patient's arches and then scan the impression. You can also ship PVS impressions to Paramount, and we'll scan the impression for you. Either way, you get the benefits of going digital. You'll get digitally designed dentures that can be refabricated on demand if lost or damaged.
